ganga maa is the divine representation of ganges river, one of the holiest sites across South Asia. for thousands of years people have been bathing in her waters to wash away past troubles, emerging reborn. she often sits atop a lotus flower which represents strength and resilience in the face of adversity, rebirth, and transcendence. the lotus flower roots itself in the ground and slowly grows up from the watery depths. though it rises through the mud, the blooms emerge from their buds unscathed.

this ritual evokes the frameworks of restorative justice and land restoration and is inspired by the writing of Leah Lakshmi Piepzna- Samarasinha. both practices seek to restore power to its original source, cleansing and healing injustice and re-balancing relational harm along the way. this ritual soap was created as a grounding tool for anyone who engages in empathic, community, care, or social work. it aids in creating boundaries to prevent burn out, and facilitates the return of any energy or power that has been surrendered throughout the day.

“ It's not about self-care - it's about collective care. Collective care means shifting our organizations to be ones where people feel fine if they get sick, cry, have needs, start late because the bus broke down, more slower, ones where there's food at meetings, people work from home - and these aren't things we apologize for. ”- Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, Care Work: Dreaming Disability Justice
